Cupcake Liner Watermelon Craft With 1 in a Melon Printable Card

This cupcake liner watermelon craft makes a super cute card for someone special.

Watermelon is a summer favorite around here and Father’s Day is in June, which makes this an easy Father’s Day craft for kids!

It’s a quick and easy card craft for preschool age children and older to make with minimal materials.

The printable melon themed cards feature two versions of “you are one in a melon” puns on the front. It’s a play on words for the phrase, “you are one in a million.” Who loves puns more than Dads?

The free printable “one in a melon” cards are available at the end of this post.

Text at top in muted red, green and black on a white background says Cupcake Liner Watermelon Card Craft. Below text is a homemade card standing up. Front says You are 1 in a melon! and is colored in with green and red colored pencil. A slice of watermelon made out of cupcake liners is in the middle.

This free printable card craft is a simple and adorable project for children. They are cute and silly, making them a wonderful handmade card option.

Watermelon Cupcake Liner Craft for Kids

To give you a couple options, we designed two versions of the printable melon themed cards. One says “you are one in a melon” and the other says “you are 1 in a melon.”

Kids will enjoy coloring the letters in on the front of the card, as well as creating the cute melon craft to adorn it.

Two cards printed out on white cardstock are folded in half and laying side by side on the table. They both have outlined text for coloring in. Left card says You are 1 in a melon! Right card says You are one in a melon! with text curved.

This gives them a chance to exercise their creativity as well as work on fine motor skills while coloring, cutting and gluing. Many children will be able to work on this independently.

While we created this to be a card craft, the paper baking cup watermelon craft instructions can be used to make watermelons on construction paper as well as in other summer craft projects.

If you don’t have cupcake liners on hand, you can still use these printable cards.

Here are a few ideas if you don’t have any paper baking cups to use:

  • Create melons with construction paper
  • Draw and color your own watermelons
  • Have kids paint a watermelon on the front

We hope these craft ideas for kids inspire new ways to get crafty!

What Holidays Can This Printable Card Be Used For?

Not looking for Father’s Day ideas? That’s okay because you can make this card for other occasions too.

We included inserts for Mother’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, and Parent’s Day.

The Happy Parents Day insert can be used for someone who is non-binary, for a step-parent, or for celebrating national Parents’ Day.

Did you know there is a specific day for celebrating parents? It’s celebrated in the United States on the fourth Saturday in July. South Korea observes Parents’ Day on May 8th each year.

Since the front of the card is not holiday specific, it can be used for almost any occasion! Give it to a close friend for their birthday, as a thank you card, or to show appreciation to your favorite teacher.

We hope you find this watermelon card craft useful to celebrate the special people in your life.

Cupcake Liner Watermelon Craft Supplies

Using a few common craft and baking supplies, you and your kids can make this in about 15 minutes.

When making cards, I recommend using white cardstock paper for this project. The heavier weight of the paper holds up better to gluing and stands better if you wish to display your card.

How to Make a Cupcake Liner Watermelon Card

First you will need to download and print out at least one of our One in a Melon Printable Cards (available at the bottom of this post). If the alignment of the card isn’t quite right when you print it out, try selecting “fit to page” in your printer settings.

Next, have the kids color in the text on the front of the card. Once they are done coloring, fold the card in half.

Now it’s time to make the watermelon!

Half of a flattened green cupcake liner is glued to the center of a printable card with a melon pun. Half of a red baking cup lays next to it as does a bottle of school glue.

Starting with the green cup, flatten the cupcake liner (aka baking cup) and fold it in half one time. Cut the baking cup in half on the folded line.

With your liquid glue or glue stick, attach the green semi circle with the flat side facing toward the top of the card.

Then flatten the red cupcake liner and fold it in half one time. Cut the cupcake liner in half on the folded line.

Half of a flattened red cupcake liner has been glued offset on top of a green liner to look like a slice of watermelon on the front of a handmade card.

Glue the red semi circle on top of the green semi circle, offsetting the circles slightly, leaving the green showing beneath the red along the bottom curve.

Lastly, you will make the watermelon seeds. This can be done by cutting out several small seed-shapes using black construction paper or drawing seeds on with a black marker after the glue has completely dried.

A few small black seeds cut out of construction paper are glued onto the cupcake liner watermelon on the card.

While your watermelon is drying, you can cut out your card insert of choice (such as Happy Father’s Day) or write your own message.

Once the front of your card is dry, attach your selected phrase to the inside of the card using liquid glue or a glue stick. Set aside to dry the inside.

Now you have a wonderful homemade card!
