Benefits of Making Snowmen With Coffee Filters
Engaging in coffee filter crafts for kids, like this delightful snowman, offers numerous benefits to young children. Importantly, it helps develop their fine motor skills.
The process involves precise, tiny movements of the fingers and hand when cutting, coloring, and gluing the snowman and adding decorative elements.
Cultivating these skills at a young age is crucial for tasks such as writing, buttoning clothes, or tying shoelaces.
Furthermore, this project fosters creativity, allowing kids to personalize their snowman with unique colors and accessories, promoting individual expression and imaginative thinking.
Plus, the beauty of this craft lies in its open-ended nature — there are no hard and fast rules, giving children the freedom to explore and experiment creatively within a fun, supportive framework.

Books About Snowmen for Kids
Reading and crafting are a wonderful combination that fosters creativity and cognitive growth in children, making it a perfect way to spend time indoors when it’s too chilly to play outside.
These activities stimulate the imagination, improve concentration, and open up a world of fun learning. Here are three delightful snowman-themed books that complement our craft activities:
“The Snowman” by Raymond Briggs — A magical tale of a snowman who comes alive and, with a little boy as his guide, experiences a world he could have only dreamt of. This timeless classic, with its beautiful illustrations, captivates the imagination of children and adults alike.
“Snowmen at Night” by Caralyn Buehner — Solving the puzzle of why snowmen appear different in the morning, this whimsical story provides an imaginative twist to a common winter observation. Its charming narrative and vivid illustrations make it a captivating read.
“Sneezy the Snowman” by Maureen Wright — A fun, engaging story about a snowman who can’t stop sneezing. It delightfully intertwines humor and warmth, teaching kids about compassion and problem-solving in a light-hearted manner.

How To Make a Coffee Filter Snowman
Create a snowman using three coffee filters by cutting off the outer edges, leaving the smaller center circles.
Arrange them on construction paper, slightly overlapping to stack them. Secure them in place with glue. I suggest using a glue stick, but liquid glue works too.
Add personality to the snowman by using markers or construction paper to create a face, stick arms, and a scarf.
For the scarf, you have two options: color the wavy coffee filter edges with markers, spray them with water, let them dry, and then trim them down to create a scarf to glue onto the snowman. Alternatively, you can use construction paper for the scarf.
To add some extra flair to your snowman, consider making a hat! You can also use glitter glue to make the snow sparkle, pom poms for earmuffs, chenille stems for the stick arms, or small buttons to represent the coal pieces for the eyes, mouth, and buttons.
For younger children, they can use two full-sized coffee filters and glue them onto a piece of paper to decorate, instead of cutting out the snowballs.
Let your creativity shine and enjoy making your unique coffee filter snowman!
