Homemade Watercolor Mother’s Day Card Craft

Kids of all ages can create one of these lovey cards. With a little help, it’s a great Mother’s Day card craft for toddlers too. They will delight in painting with watercolors.

There are two different watercolor resist techniques you can use for this project. I prefer doing watercolor resist with a white crayon, but you could also try using a wax candle stick.

Painting with watercolors over white crayon reveals message or design.

You can customize the front of the card anyway you want from writing a message to drawing hearts, flowers, and other designs.

Let the kids get creative with their Mother’s Day card craft!

Don’t want to make a traditional card? You can also leave the paper unfolded in order to make a pretty picture if you wish.

How to Make a Watercolor Resist Mother’s Day Card

Start by folding the white cardstock paper in half or use a blank card.

Write and draw on the front of the card with a white crayon. It will be hard to see what you are drawing. For the best results, make thick lines with the crayon.

Watercolor paint set, paint brush, small cup of water, white crayon, and white paper folded in half on counter.

Next, paint over the card with watercolors. The watercolor paints will resist the areas marked by the white crayon, revealing the message and design.

Yellow, green, and blue watercolor paints on card revealing I heart you Mom.

To make a colorful Mother’s Day card, use a variety of paint colors.

As you paint, gently blot any places where the watercolor paint bubbles up over the wax. Be careful not to rub the wax.

Allow the paints to dry completely before writing inside the card.

Now you have a gorgeous watercolor resist Mother’s Day card to give!
