Breakfast Sandwich Kebabs

We partnered with Johnsonville to share this breakfast sandwich kebabs brunch idea with you.

Want the kids to help in the kitchen more? Make these Breakfast Sandwich Kebabs with them for an easy brunch or breakfast idea. This is a recipe kids can help cook for Mother's Day or Father's Day!

Nearly every morning, I get the kids dressed then usher them into the bathroom for teeth brushing before making their breakfast. Once they are settled at the table, I prepare my food and pour an iced coffee. It’s a rare treat for me to enjoy my breakfast and coffee in quiet solitude before my son and daughter bounce out of bed in the morning. With Mother’s Day quickly approaching, thought it would be nice if the kids served breakfast.

My daughter enjoys helping in the kitchen and feels proud of herself when she makes her own lunch or snack. So why not enlist her to make brunch on Mother’s Day? She can easily use the microwave, which makes Johnsonville fully cooked sausage patties a perfect option. I love breakfast sandwiches, but thought it’d be fun to serve them in a different way.

We decided to try breakfast sandwich kebabs. Kids love eating food on a stick, plus they are fun and portable, which works nicely for a brunch buffet. We used Johnsonville turkey pre-cooked sausage patties, cheese, and biscuits to make our breakfast kebabs. For a Mother’s Day brunch buffet, you could also offer fruit skewers.

Breakfast Sandwich Kebabs

Ingredients:

  • 8 biscuits
  • 1 package Johnsonville fully cooked breakfast sausage patties
  • Block of cheese, cubed

Directions:

Baking premade biscuits for breakfast.

We started out by baking biscuits together, but you could also use pre-made biscuits. While the biscuits baked, I cubed colby-jack cheese. Slices broke apart too easily when skewering them.

For safe cutting in the kitchen, young kids can use a pizza cutter.

Let the biscuits cool, then cut them into quarters. For safe cutting practice, my daughter used a pizza cutter.

Heat the sausage patties up in the microwave, then cut them into quarters.

Assemble the kebabs with biscuit, sausage, cheese, and another piece of biscuit.

You can use fun decorative skewers to dress them up. We used lollipop sticks! They are an option in case you’re concerned with your child poking themselves during assembly. We found the lollipop/cake pop sticks to be a tad too short, but our grilling skewers were too long (unless you used a half to whole sandwich on one).

Getting kids cooking and in the kitchen is important! Teaching them easy recipes like how to make a sausage breakfast sandwich provides a great foundation. Plus, wouldn’t it be nice to have the kids make breakfast or brunch for Mother’s Day?
