Just about everything comes with instructions….except babies. I have found that no matter how much I prepared ahead of time, I still wasn't prepared! Babies are not all the same nor are they predictable. Well, now there's some help from Blythe Lipman in the book (Amazon link) Help! My Baby Came Without Instructions (How to Survive (and Enjoy) Your Baby's First Year.
Here's some info about the book:
Bringing home baby can be one of the most exhilarating and nerve-wracking days in a new parent's life. Blythe Lipman has devoted her life to the art of newborn care and offers wise and witty practical advice in this parent-tested, doctor-approved book. Filled with valuable information new parents need, Help! My Baby Came Without Instructions will have nervous new moms and sleep-deprived dads feeling confident about their parenting skills. Hints on daily routines, sleep patterns, crying, the art and science of diapering, and traveling with a newborn are all included.
Being a first time mom is probably the hardest on-the-job training I've gone through….and it's not over yet!
Although I've now learned to trust my instincts (more), I constantly second guessed myself during the first several weeks. We tried to process so much information from family, friends, books, online, etc. It was enough to make your head spin!
I would have found this book helpful. It's still not a full set of instructions (that's just impossible!) but it has nice tips in it. Some seem like common knowledge, but when you haven't slept or showered for three days and can't remember when you last ate or went to the bathroom…there's no such thing as common knowledge.
I like that you can quickly look things up and aren't stuck trying to read 50 pages in order to get to the point. Some baby books are too indepth for the lack of time we have! This one is concise.
There are a few things here and there that I don't agree with, but it's not meant to be all or nothing. Rather, it's meant as a guide filled with suggestions. You have to pick and choose what works for you.
Conclusion – Nice for quick tips for new parents.
