My thoughts:
Admittedly, I did not see the first Marley & Me, so I watched this as a stand alone movie. I think it worked since this movie was from the early years as a puppy! This one is definitely kid friendly. The dialogue, humor, and action were on a kid's level. There was only one part that was mildly violent which involved a stuffed animal being harmed.
In this movie, Marley is being watched over by Bodie for the summer. Bodie's mom is a very, very busy lady (and apparently a single mother) so Bodie and Marley must stay with Bodie's grandfather. Bodie wants a dog of his own and sets out to prove to his mother that he is responsible. Marley, up to this point, has not been the best behaved pup. Bodie asks his mom to consider it if he can train Marley by the time she returns. Grampa doesn't seem too thrilled by the furry guest in his home, but warms up to Marley and encourages Bodie to train Marley and two other pups for an agility contest.
All of the dogs are voiced which adds a bit more entertainment and humor to it, especially when it comes to Marley's nemsis…. Cat! While there are some cultural stereotypes used (food and accents) this movie cute for an animal story. There is a clear plot and character development. There are lessons to be learned as well about not giving up, courage, and responsibility.
Rissa's Thoughts:
My daughter loved the DVD case because of the puppy on it! She liked watching the puppies, but since she's less than a year old, it didn't hold her attention the best. This movie is probably better suited for elementary school aged children. Especially if they want a pet!
