There is nothing greener than a reusable diaper. Envibum aims to help families have an affordable cloth diapering option. If you haven't heard of Envibum before, I think you will be very interested in learning more and trying them for yourself. I was very curious to try one myself. One of the hardest decisions I've ever had to make was choosing ONE! There are so many wonderful colors and prints available. I finally selected the red one.
I thought they looked soft on the website, but I couldn't believe how snuggly soft the outer minkee shell was. The diaper was wrapped in pretty tissue paper, making it a nice fluffy gift that I was happy to receive in my mailbox. Until recently, I had never tried minkee diapers. I now own two and want more. Did you know the minkee outer is supposed to help protect the waterproof layer from your high heat (like from the dryer)? I didn't know that until I read more about Envibum features.
This is a very unique All-in-One (AIO). It fits most babies 8lbs to 40lbs with a self-adjusting rise. No snaps! I don't know how it works, but it does. I have been impressed. I have pulled it to stretch it out more and scrunched it down and it always had the right height for Rissa. The waist and legs have snug elastic that provide natural gussets.
These feature 100% unbleached cotton with absorbency channels. It's supposed to help draw the wetness away from baby's skin and be more resistant to staining. I have not seen an inner like this before. The absorbency pad is attached at one end and needs to be stuffed in. It unstuffs on its own while in the washer so as to get it nice and clean. This also means it dries faster. And it really does. After one dryer cycle, it's dry while our other AIOs are still damp. There is plenty of room in the pocket to stuff additional absorbency pads. I would say dads with big hands can also stuff these!
Use: We have used our Envibum mostly during the day at home. I've used it at naptime without the extra pad as well. We haven't had any leaks! In fact, I was impressed with how much it sucked in the dirty diapers. Rissa is in that weird transitional stage, but her poo is still often quite liquidy. It was seriously amazing because her bottom wasn't as messy to clean up as it usually would be. I have not tried it overnight for fear of it coming off of her.
Fit: Yes, I fear this diaper falling off my sweetpea because it has started to slip off a couple times. I love my snaps but this cloth diaper is hook and loop only. While there is a nice strip of velcro across the front, the tabs seemed small to me. Well, the tabs themselves are normal but half of it is the laundry tab so there's a small square to attach the front. They cross over and can stick to the leaf for a tighter, slimmer fit. The only problem with this is that only one tab is sticking to the front of the diaper.
I stretch the left across to stick to over the leaf. Only the right tab is attached to the front of the diaper, so the left side can sag and slip out. I used to have this problem with newborn and size 1 disposables too. If I need a really tight fit around the waist, I risk not securing the rest in place. Now, with Envibum on a newborn, I think that would be fine. However, my daughter is crawling backwards, pulling herself up on things and quite active. This is why I think it will fit better when she grows into it! Oh, one other thing I noticed is that it can look bulgy in the crotch. I think it might be due to the pad stuffing in at the front rather than the back.
Every diaper purchased gives back. Each color represents a different charitable organization. And I think that is fantastic! Rachel and the Envibum family are very committed to helping those in need. That's what led to the start of Envibum. Rachel has been a seamstress for years and sewed her own diapers. She then received a calling to create them for others – ones that were easy to use, clean, maintain, and affordable. Also, Envibum employs work at home moms and dads and they are made in the USA!
Final thoughts: I really want to love this diaper. I love the soft, gorgeous minkee. I love the auto-adjusting rise. I love the absorbency. I love the drying time. But, it just doesn't seem to fit *my* daughter well. Perhaps as she grows it'll fit her better, but it doesn't seem to stay on right due to her skinny waist and active legs.
They do offer a satisfaction guarantee for their cloth diaper packages. They can't accept returns for single used/washed diapers. However, if you buy one of their packs, they suggest you try just ONE to see if it works for you before washing the rest. If it does not, you can return your pack for your money back.
