If you aren’t familiar with it, another name for puppy chow is Muddy Buddies or Muddy Munch. There are a few different names for this homemade treat, but I grew up calling it puppy chow.

Whatever name you prefer to use, it’s a sweet snack that usually uses Chex cereal mixed in and coated with peanut butter, melted chocolate, and powdered sugar.

To melt the chocolate candy melts, you can use the microwave or a candy melting pot. I prefer my candy melting pot for more even melting. Follow the directions for the melting pot to completely melt them.

If using the microwave, place the yellow candy melts in a small microwave-safe bowl and heat for 20 seconds at a time, stirring and reheating as needed until completely melted.

If the melted chocolate seems too thick and stiff to pour and coat the cereal you can mix in a little bit of shortening or this Candy Melts EZ Thin Dipping Aid to thin it out to make working with it easier.
