One of hardest things to get past when trying to lose weight is the BIG number.  When I was on Weight Watchers years ago, I hated the weigh ins at the beginning of the meeting.  That number was there for all to see (well, we all were too focused on our own but still!)  Whether I made a little progress or not, seeing my total weight was sometimes a trigger for me to go off track.  I’d get down, thinking about how long it would take to get down to my goal weight.  That number was just depressing.  It was also disheartening to see that number when nothing changed.  Not gaining was a good thing, but it felt just as horrible because the goal was not any closer.

Well, no more excuses or getting depressed by a stupid number when you use the Zero Scale!  This scale is really neat and has a very cool, innovative concept.  The scale stores your weight internally but doesn’t show it to you.  It ONLY shows you what you have gained or lost.  Instead of focusing on what you need to do yet, it shows your progress only!

I really wish I’d had something like this years ago…

Last Thursday got to 50 degrees, which is pretty nice for February in Wisconsin. I was supposed to have a mommy date at the park that afternoon since we both have spring fever. Unfortunately her daughter was coming down with a cold, so we had to cancel. Despite this, I was still determined to get out of the house – at least for a walk!

Well, it was warmer than our Sunday stroll according to the thermometer, but it felt chillier.. it was damp and hazy rather than sunny. My first thought was good thing we didn’t go to the park today after all.  I briefly considered not taking our walk since it was kinda crummy out, but I couldn’t back down now.

Oh no.

We were going to spend some time outside!

So I manhandled the stroller through the doorway with one hand and carried Rissa in the other.  Time to open it up!

Stupid thing wouldn’t open.  It’s supposed to be a one hand open/close stroller.  I’ve done it before so what was the problem?

Have you ever seen a woman struggling to open a stroller while hanging onto a bundled up baby? I musta looked ridiculous! I felt like a dog chasing its tail or like I was trying to bite my ear..no matter how hard I tried it was impossible.

Tomorrow I get to see my OB again.  She wanted me to come in again this week instead of next week due to the high blood pressure last Thursday.  I haven’t heard anything yet about the blood tests, so I’m hoping no news is good news.  I don’t really want bad news sprung on me tomorrow, especially since I’m going to see her mid-morning… which means I’m working before and after the appointment.

I was talking with Brian today about how the prospect of bed rest is a double edged sword for me.  Overall the idea sounds lovely… I’m tired and such.  But how boooring would that be? Especially now with 11 weeks to go?  Or maybe 10 weeks.  She might come at week 39 (or be forced to).  We know it won’t be any later than the due date though…

But I’m also concerned about how being put on bed rest affects Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).  I mean, the wording says the 12 unpaid weeks are to be used after the birth or adoption of a child.  But I’ve heard of people starting their leave early.  To me, if I CHOSE to go on leave a week early, that’s one thing.  But if I’m on doctor’s orders for bedrest… it should be short term disability and be medical leave…. but not count against my 12 weeks… right?  I have no idea.

I have to stop thinking too much about it and just carry on.  If I get ordered on it, we’ll figure it out then.  I just wish some of this stuff was easier to sort out.  A straight across the board standard would be nice, for one thing.  And if I stress out about it too much, it probably WILL drive my blood pressure high!
