I’ve said it before – it’s nice to save money on maternity clothes since they aren’t worn for a long time. Sure, we’re pregnant for nearly ten months (whoever tried to convince the world it’s only nine months is a liar!!), but our bellies don’t expand on day one. Starting to show varies from woman to woman based on things like her build, size and position of baby, what number baby and more. It’s not uncommon to go half the pregnancy without showing.
That means we spend too much to wear clothes for only a few months! This also means a lot of our maternity clothes are still in good shape – they’re just taking up closet and drawer space. So what if you could sell some of your gently used maternity items and/or buy gently used items for less than retail? Then you should check out Bump to Bump Maternity!
Their site categorizes items for easy searching. Besides gently used maternity wear, they also offer new items too. There’s a selection of nursing items (clothing, covers, books, etc.) and gifts too. One of the most unique services they offer is to upcycle your wedding dress into a beautiful baptism gown. What a wonderful idea!
I offered my gift certificate to my sister-in-law who’s due at the end of September. She didn’t want to get any clothes though since she only has a few months left. I tried to convince her that this site was the way to go because she could get a few things. Then, I started looking at nursing tops and she wanted me to use it. I had a hard time picking something but decided on a teething necklace. My daughter is so distractable while nursing and chewing on everything… hope it helps! (Waiting for it to arrive!)
There are a couple nice features at Bump to Bump Maternity. You can place an item on hold. I don’t know for how long since I didn’t want to make anything unavailable just for my test. You can also add items to a wish list and send that by email. If you are looking for something specific (like, say, a black dress or a black skirt) you can set it up to email you when an item matching your criteria is listed.
For viewing the items, they provide a decent amount of information about each piece of clothing. I know the manufacturer’s don’t use a standard for sizes. Some are tighter than others. This can get especially frustrating for us plus sized mamas. Thankfully, they have charts for the size guidelines for several popular manufacturer’s in their fitting room. As for pictures… well, the models make it easier to see the clothing. However, the photoslide show pop-up doesn’t work for me in Chrome. I didn’t try playing around with it in another browser yet. I was bummed that I couldn’t at least manually select the other pictures. [Update 6/27: It worked in Firefox!]
Overall, this looks like a nice place to shop for gently used maternity clothes!
Check them out on Facebook too! If they hit 100 fans by June 30th, they’ll have a 10% off sale; 250 fans and it will be 25% off!
