Because Prompts are Fun: Looking Forward to Summertime Activities
Do you have cabin fever? I know I do and I suspect Rissa does too. I don’t think Brian is affected quite as much since he works outside the home most of the time and Xander… well, he doesn’t care where we are as long as mama is near by to nurse him.

The other day it snowed a bunch here in Wisconsin bringing snowbank heights taller than my toddler. Although she loves to play in the snow, we are all getting tired of being cooped up in the house so much. We spend much more time outdoors in the warmer months. I am getting a bit stir crazy and my crappy attitude shows it. I try not to let it by thinking positively, but the truth is it is a struggle. My patience is thin and I get frustrated with everything more quickly.
Even though I had a break from the house and kids the other day to get my hair done, it wasn’t enough. In some ways I think it made the itch worse! So, Rissa and I have been daydreaming about what we’ll be doing when the warm weather comes. She keeps asking if it is summertime yet!
So here are the activities we are most looking forward to:
- Going for walks
- Storytime at the library
- Tumbling class
- Swimming lessons
- Playing with the water table
- Going to the park
- Going to the zoo
I love that Rissa has memories of these activities last year and is asking for them. These kept us busy last year!
Are you dealing with cabin fever? How do you treat yours?

I am with you on the snow. I am ready for some green grass and flowers, and to open the windows and get some fresh air! Having three little boys confined to the house most of the day for a full week, has been an experience in the patience department this week :)

Oh man not sure my patience would have survived! And now we are supposed to get another 4-6inches Tuesday.Syrana
I feel Rissa’s pain! When is summer already?

Not soon enough but then I’ll complain it’s too hot lolSyrana
It is amazing what little ones remember, isn’t it! It is great that she is looking forward to those activities. Just an idea, but maybe there are tumbling classes or swimming lessons you could go to during the winter?

Oh those things are available here in winter but we can’t walk to/from them until summer. A mile each way in summer is much more doable with a stroller and 2 kids than in the winter. We only have 1 car so I’m without it while hubby is at work.Syrana
I didn’t go swimming even one time last year and I am so looking forward to doing that this year. i will make it happen!

I didn’t either but I don’t swim. It was still nice to walk around in the kiddie area though!Syrana
Is it crazy that I bring out the water table in the winter? I put a few beach towels under it, don’t fill it all the way and let my son have fun. Usually, I do this on the day that I want to wash the kitchen floor. The extra water from the table comes in handy!
A friend of mine puts rice in her water table, but for me that seems too messy!

I’ve heard of people using sand or rice. Wish there was room inside for it but I have no where to put it!Syrana
Oh my goodness! We are in the SAME BOAT! Sophia asks on a daily basis if it’s Spring yet! ;)

Oh my goodness these kids! They are feeling cooped up too.Syrana
I cannot wait for summer activities! We love going swimming and on walks around our neighborhood. I also want to get my son a sand and water table this year.
As for cabin fever, we try to get outside every day that it isn’t rainy…even if it’s 35 degrees we will go out for five minutes of fresh air. On rainy days, we stay in, watching movies, coloring/drawing, or play games.

If it was just Riss I’d take her out more even though it’s cold. But little man makes that a bit tougher. Water tables are very fun though!Syrana
I love spending time with my little man during summer. I just wish I could take more time off work to do it!

That’s one thing that I do luck out with – I may be cooped up more in winter as a SAHM but I get to enjoy the summer ina way I never did while working in an office!Syrana
Finally, this year we will be doing toddler activities, too. I’m so excited! All that sick we dealt with at the beginning of the year wasn’t horrible…when we could venture out, but most days it was just too crummy out and that made it crummy indoors :(

I’m so glad she is feeling better. Being sick is no fun. Toddler activities are more fun than I imagined – but I need to start doing more things (like crafts) at home too. What kinds of things are you thinking of doing with her?Syrana
I can’t wait to go for walks, go to the park/beach and just get out more in general!!

Fun prompts this week! I’m soooo over winter and ready for spring. Unfortunately we’re getting another round of snow tonight:-( It is supposed to warm up by the end of the week though!

Is it just me or is the snow coming later each year and just totally dumping on us in a shorter time frame than how it was even 5-10 yrs ago?Syrana
I really miss the warm weather. I’d love to just go for a long walk.

yes! I miss our daily walks so much.Syrana
We are dealing with cabin fever bad here. The weather is getting nicer but we are ready for a storm again. It seems like the days that are nice are the days we are to busy to go outside and the days that are horrible weather we are home staring at each other.
I do a lot with painters tape to break up the cabin fever. It sticks to the floor great put pulls up nicely! Hopscotch, line tag, if your brave 4 square…

Ha! I wish I had room to put down the tape. I think my cabin fever is worse now than ever because it’s the first time I’m cooped up with 2 kids in winter with no car. When my daughter was born I still had my car for her first year at least. Come on spring!!Syrana
Swimming! So miss it and that reminds me – need to sign up for spring classeselenka29
I think I need to sign both kiddos up this summer since they start at 6months in the lowest level class.Syrana
