Recycle Old Electronics and Computers at Best Buy

We live in a rapidly developing technological world where our new phone is outdated within months after purchasing.  Electronics are made out of heavy metals and contain potentially hazardous material if not disposed of properly.  We literally have a closet FULL of old computer parts, monitors, and broken consoles and controllers.  So what are we to do with old computer parts, broken DVD players, and outdated gaming consoles?

Recycle them!

Recycle Old Electronics at Best Buy

Since Best Buy is one of the largest electronics retailers in the world, they have an opportunity to provide a solution to a growing problem.  Technology items are the fastest growing waste stream so it makes sense to find a greener way to get rid of them.  The Best Buy Recycling Program is free in all stores throughout the United States and Puerto Rico.

It does not matter where you bought your electronics or how old they are, Best Buy will recycle it for free.

I think it is great that Best Buy is working to be part of the solution and they are working hard!  They recycle 387 pounds of electronics each minute their stores are open!

Types of electronics you can take in to be recycled:

  • televisions
  • cell phones
  • tablets
  • cameras
  • video games and consoles

For a complete list please refer to the Best Buy Recycling Program guidelines.

Be sure to wipe your data off before taking your stuff in or ask them about it.  Load up that cluttered stack of old technology parts so they can safely and properly dispose of them rather than ending up in a landfill.  When recycling your old electronics, consider upgrading to more energy efficient ones.  Best Buy also carries a line of Energy Star certified products.

Have you ever used Best Buy’s recycling program? What could you drop off this week?
