The Tale of Twin Kitties
About a month ago, Rissa became increasingly attached to her stuffed kitty, Peaches. She likes all her stuffed animals, but has a few identifiable favorites. I think I’ve discovered their pecking order and Peaches is certainly at the very top.
She goes through stretches where they are inseparable. While she was super attached last month, I started to worry about what would happen if he got lost. How would we recover? When she starts searching for him and asking “Where’d it go?” we pretty much have to find him before she will settle down. Or, what about if he gets really dirty? She likes to have him at her side at dinner and during diaper changes.
I don’t know if this is normal or not, but I decided I must buy a stunt double. A kitty that is capable of making her happy in case Peaches gets lost, dirty, or otherwise damaged.
I bought a duplicate Peaches. I call him Kitty2.
When Kitty2 arrived, my intention was to hide him until his services were needed. It’s not easy to hide things in our house (if I want to find them again, that is!). He remained in the shipping box for a bit as I tried to figure out where to stash him. Plus, I had to do it while she couldn’t see what was going on.
Well, I waited too long… She found him.
She got super excited too, shouting “Kih-tee! Kih-tee!”
I had no choice. I had to let the second cat out of the bag. Now we have twin kitties that she plays with. If you are wondering, yes, I can tell them apart.

Have you ever bought a twin toy?

My daughter also has a favorite toy. We call him Raffey. He is a plush giraffe. She loves him, snuggles him, sleeps with him, and carries him everywhere. My husband and I went crazy looking for a replacement, in case he got lost, and after a long search finally found one. She caught a glimpse of him and played with him a bit, but we switched him out real quick. She is too little to discover that he had a twin. I think it’s adorable that your little one has a lovey and two kittens are clearly more cuddly than one.Serendipitymama
Mine likes Gonzo from the muppets. I bought a second one, and I swap them out every other day. I make sure to adjust the replacements clothes so it’s just how he left it. This way they both get wear and tear and age. I learned my lesson long ago with a teddy bear. He got worn out, so when he got lost, my son didn’t want the new one, he could tell the difference, lol :)kappavelvit
With my son he has never been that attached to any one toy. But when my daughter was she had one she felt that way about and also a favorite pillow and when it was lost she was devastated. I wish I had bought a second one but I did not think about it at the time. I am almost positive my mom had bought me a second Raggedy Ann when I was little as all of her hair feel out after she washed it and I refused to play with and I would not talk to my mom or grandma for a whole day. Finally my grandpa took me shopping and let me pick out a new one which was nice but not the same. Isn’t it funny what we remember from our childhood?MomsReview
The same thing happened to me with my oldest! He was attached to a blanket his great grandma crocheted for him, so I asked her to make another in case something happened to the first, or so I could just wash the first without him freaking out if it wasn’t clean and dry by nap or bedtime. Well, he eventually discovered there were two of them. Now he has to have both. >.<
