Why Can’t I Fit All of Our Stuff in This House?
We bought our house from my husband’s grandmother, who managed to raise three children here. There were five people living here, yet I feel like we have no room with just the three of us. It has to be all the stuff we have… furniture, toys, clothes… STUFF. I’m sure we could do without a lot of it, but then what would I have to complain about? (Ha!)
Before Rissa was born the house was already filled up quite a bit. It’s a three bedroom ranch style home that was built in the 1950s. But, it’s small. We use one room for our bedroom, another for our computer room (no where else to go!), and what was the guest/spare room is now the nursery. With the crib, changing table, glider, and bookcase I can barely move in there. It’s ridiculous how little of floor space there is for Rissa to play. And as we accumulate more toys, clothes and baby gear it becomes increasingly clear that we have no storage space!
We try to put things in the basement, but that is where we store items normally found in a garage, I mean, we have a shed outside for some stuff, like the lawn mower, but that fills up fast too! The kitchen has almost zero counter space so the cabinets are full of items that would normally be on counters. Our kitchen table is used as a counter rather than for dining because there’s no where to put it AND chairs without blocking a doorway or something important.
Then we have the living room, which is a decent size, but I can’t fathom how his grandmother had everyone over for the holidays! I feel like we can barely fit another family in here comfortable for hanging out (though we’ve thrown parties and get togethers with 10 people on average all here). Well, okay, she didn’t have two couches, a big chair and a 42″ television to accommodate. But the bedrooms?!
It won’t be long before we need to look into renting space from a place like Uncle Bob’s Self Storage because I just don’t know where else to go with all this stuff we don’t want to get rid of! I know I shouldn’t complain since some people would love to have this issue. I definitely would like a larger home and in today’s society it seems harder to raise families in these smaller homes than it was fiftysome years ago.
Do you accumulate a lot of stuff too? How do you handle your storage?

We do have more than necessary but after watching the show Hoarders…im all good with how much we have haha If you havent seen this show yet, you should try sitting through an episode, Its disgusting
In an effort to organize my life and make some extra money to pay off bills I’ve gone through each room of our home and have gotten rid of a lot of “stuff”. It’s really a win-win. I don’t feel suffocated with tons of clutter AND I made some money!
I tell my husband I’m actually saving him money by selling this stuff because we won’t have to buy a larger home ;)simmworksfamily
