Tales From the Nursery: The Toddler Years

Schedule Playdates for Kids at Playdate Planet! (+ Amazon GC Giveaway!)

When you organize a playdate or play group, how do you keep it all straight? Do you make lots of phone calls back and forth? Emails? I currently do emails, texts, and the moms group message board calendar. Would you like a way to keep track of all important information for your child’s friends? How about set the number of RSVPs available and let them sign up themselves?

Play date Planet

At Playdate Planet you can connect with your friends by email and Facebook invitations. Once you register and invite a few friends, it is time to update your profile. Add your address, information about your home such as having cats, and add your child(ren).

Then be sure to invite some friends. After your friend connect with you, their child can be assigned to which one of your children they are friends with. This is helpful if you have multiple children so you invite the right kids! Finally you can schedule a playdate. You must choose who gets invited (even if you only hve 1 child). Once you fill out the playdate information, you can publish it. Only your connected friends on the website can view it. As friends RSVP, it automatically fills up the available slots for you as they respond.

I like that you can easily set a cap on the number of attendees without having to worry about losing count. I also like the “flags” it provides about people, especially since I have cats. I try to make that clear to anyone interested in coming over in case of allergies. It’s also nice that there is emergency contact information available (if filled out) so there’s no searching for it if an accident of some kind occurs.

The site is still very new, so please keep that in mind when using it. The Facebook Connect invitation is being addressed so it can work properly. Currently you can only plan a play group with people you are friends with. As more people join, it will make it easier to create, test, and implement a way to connect with other members. I’m looking forward to this (hopefully!) being an added feature in the future because that will be the most beneficial to me. I really need a way to find other moms in my city. Now that we are down a car, it gets harder to attend activities farther from home.

You can connect with Playdate Planet at PlaydatePlanet.com, on Facebook, and on Twitter @playdateplanet.

  3. Cool! And that’s awesome that you can cap the number of attendees. I hate when I’m hosting a playdate at my own house and it gets a little out of hand.

This sounds like a very cool site! I need to find some moms my age (none of my friends have kids) so my son can go on playdates. Sounds like a great site to help find him some little baby friends :)AshBG
