Tales From the Nursery: The Toddler Years

Indulge Without the Guilt With Weight Watchers Ice Cream Bars!

I love ice cream. I could eat it everyday. As it is, I probably indulge in it too often, but it’s so yummy! Even in winter we have it. We are dedicated ice cream lovers! We may or may not have gone out for ice cream during a snow storm on more than one occasion… Problem is, having it nearly every day is not doing much for the goal to slim my waist line, but, I also know that eliminating it completely from my diet is unrealistic and only sets me up to fail. So, I need an alternative that will let me lose weight and eat my ice cream too because setting myself up for failure (especially knowingly) is just plain stupid.

Enter Weight Watchers ice cream bars!

  • Weight Watchers Snack Size Chocolate Fudge Bar: This delightful, chocolate-y snack-sized treat offers real ice cream smoothness with only 45 calories per bar and less than 1g of fat. For a PointsPlus value of 1 per bar, it is the perfect size to satisfy your sweet tooth.
  • Weight Watchers Dark Chocolate Raspberry Bars: Offering an indulgent combination of fruitful raspberry and dark chocolate, these bars are made with low fat raspberry ice cream with raspberries covered with a dark chocolate flavored coating. Each bar has aPointsPlus value of 2 per bar and just 80 calories- the perfect way to add flavor to your afternoon.
  • Weight Watchers Dark Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake Dessert Bars: Featuring low fat cheesecake ice cream with a raspberry swirl dipped in dark chocolate. Each bar has a PointsPlus value of 3 per bar and 110 calories.
  • Weight Watchers Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Dessert Bars: Featuring low fat strawberry ice cream with a strawberry swirl dipped in a milk chocolate. Each bar has a PointsPlus value of 3 per bar and only 100 calories!

A few years ago I followed the WW plan and did well with it (very well – dropped 20+ pounds and a pants size!). I stopped keeping track of my points and went off plan, much to my disappointment.  It’s been a struggle to get myself back on track, but I learned a lot about portions and healthy choices, which have continued to make a positive impact on my eating habits.

I received the opportunity to try out four great flavors of Weight Watchers ice cream bars. I tend to prefer having mine in a dish, but I don’t mind the bars in cooler weather. These are pretty soft and already come off the stick easily – I wouldn’t want to see how fast they melt in the summer!  They are perfect for fall, winter, and spring eating though.  Each box clearly marks the number of points from the Weight Watchers plan that a serving equals. Some are as few as 1 point, others up to 3 points. For snacks, this is good! And for dessert? It’s great!  The points system makes things nice and easy.

These are lighter than other ice cream but they are still smooth and creamy in texture and taste good. Often the low fat/low calorie types don’t taste that great. But these have a good flavor. They are small compared to others; however, it’s just enough to be satisfying.  Some others are too small and just leave you wanting more (or the taste is a little off).  These are good enough that even Brian enjoyed one.  My favorite is definitely the chocolate dipped strawberry ice cream bar.

We’ve been enjoying a bar in the evening instead of a bowl of ice cream or a custard sundae (though the sundae is still a treat).  It’s nice having a lighter, yet just-as-yummy option for our nightly dessert.  If you have weight loss as one of your New Year’s resolutions or as a goal, then you  should check these out to help keep you on track.

Which flavor would you try first?

Definitely good to know! I too love ice cream but try to buy healthier options. I’m glad to know I can get WW ice cream and it’ll be delicious :)

I’ll give the Dark Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake a try but diet ice cream and store-bought ice cream don’t taste anywhere near as good as local organic gourmet ice cream.

Between Weight Watcher’s Ice Cream Bars and Skinny Cow I don’t have to feel deprived!! When I started on my weight loss journey I honestly thought I would be deprived of a lot of things I loved, but 96lbs later I have all kinds of foods that are delicious and filling, and I have ice cream, and candy and peanut butter, and pretty much anything I want!! It’s just a matter of portion control and finding healthier ways of making food that is fried or just has too many calories. I know I can eat this way for the rest of my life, so I do not gain back the weight I have lost!! :0)
