Pack a Snack for a Child in Need #AbbottCFK #CBias
Sometimes I take certain things for granted… like food. Nutritious food. I’ve had access to it for the majority of my life (even if I make unhealthy choices.) I couldn’t imagine what it’d be like to be one of more than 16 million children that go without proper nutrition and are hungry. I honestly don’t know what the stats are like for child hunger in the area we live in. It’s a fairly nice area filled with middle to upper class families – or appear to be. We have to remind ourselves that things may not be as they appear and everyone deserves a helping hand when times are tough… especially when children are involved.
Did you know that 1 in 7 low-income preschoolers are obese? Some may think it means they have access to plenty of food; however, sadly, it means they have access t a lot of junk food. Quality of food is just as important as quantity but can get overlooked. I used to help with food pantry fundraisers (on several occasions over the years). One thing I noticed a lot of was cheap, sugary crap being donated. I can totally empathize with the need for assistance with food (we got it when I was little), but they often get unhealthy foods provided to them.
Last month I told you about the December Simple Service Project over at Championsforkids.org, well, they really are simple and easy that I’m doing January’s project too! These projects are a really great way to give back – even just a little bit – in different ways each month. This month is about getting kids fueled up with nutritious snacks!
Abbott Nutrition Snack Packs
I’ll be shopping for Abbott Nutrition foods such as Pedialyte and donating them to our local food pantry. There isn’t enough donated specifically for kids that I am aware of! I’l be checking back in to let you all know what I purchased and where exactly I took it to be donated!
If you know a child in need or have a nearby organization that you’d like to donate to (i.e. churches, school etc) What would go in your snack pack?
Twitter Party!
Come chat about helping give back in your community and get a chance to win prizes too! The Twitter party is scheduled for January 19th at 9pm EST. Watch for the hashtags #AbbottCFK, #ChampionsforKids and #CBias.

Thats awesome your helping your community! Some thongs I might use are, cheese sticks, sugar free jello and jello pudding snack packs(my son and I eat these, he loves them), Lil cuties mandarins, pretzels, low sugar chewy granola bars(these don’t taste any different than the regular ones)
oops I meant things not thongs
truly, such a great reach out program. especially donating pedialyte. such an easy thing to pick up at the grocery store. we always buy peanut butter for our local food bank. never thought about pedialyte.
thanks for sharing all of this & the info for the twitter party.
Oh my – how sad – thank you for posting. We have so much and this seems like such a simple task to help…..retaillounge
It does seem like everyone is doing okay, it is hard to know who needs help. Thank goodness for food shelters!
This is such an important cause. I will share and try my best to help out for this! Thank youdentistmel
this is great what your doing, inspiring too makes me think what I can do in my community. I live in a very small community in the middle of no where, I’m new in town and really dont know what the needs are but you got me thinking.
It’s so sad so many children are in need of healthy food. It just shouldn’t be that way for anyone, ever.FoundtheMarbles

This is such an important topic for people to discuss and be aware of as community members. It is amazing how many hungry children are in our society! I appreciate your post and pasted it on to my readers.

Thanks for your contributions. I’ll be following your example.
I think fruit cups, string cheese, boxed raisins, trail mix (although you have to be careful, some kids have nut allergies), cheese crackers or peanut butter crackers, and juice boxes.
