Tales From the Nursery: The Toddler Years

Merry Fluffy Christmas: Changing Diapers {Book Review}

Merry Fluffy Christmas is going on now through December 5th! Be sure to enter to win a prize from this event sponsor!

Changing Diapers: The Hip Mom’s Guide to Modern Cloth Diapers is the perfect book for those new to cloth as well as veteran cloth users.  The author, Kelly Wels, is a mother who cloth diapered her children and ran two successful online cloth diaper stores.  She is revered as an expert in the field and is an advocate who’s passionate about using cloth.

This book is a great introduction to those unsure about making the switch.  It also makes a good coffee table book – a good conversation starter!  The book is broken down into easy to digest sections.  The variety of bullet points, quotes, statistics, etc. keeps the information flowing.  It’s also easy to skim when you are searching for something in specific.

Ms. Wels did an excellent job with condensing a TON of information and presents it in a straight forward manner.  My favorite section is about the reasons to cloth diaper.  I think it’s great to focus on not only the eco-friendly nature of using cloth and the money savings, but also about how fun and convenient it can be!  I found the check list at the back to be helpful as well.  The only section I found lacking was about rashes.  It focused primarily on someone’s story of experiencing bad rashes before switching to cloth and then it cleared up.  I felt there could have (and should have) been more information about how to deal with rashes when using cloth.  While it may be less often and less severe, it still happens!  And using cloth safe diaper rash cream/ointment is important too.

Overall, I like this book and am glad I have it even though I don’t need it.  It’s just nice to have something that backs me up and supports my decision to cloth diaper today.
