Tales From the Nursery: The Toddler Years

Time to Weatherize for Winter!

It’s late November and we are late in winterizing our home this year.  The warm weather hung around a little longer so we pushed back our yearly routine of covering the windows with plastic.  This is pretty much a guaranteed mist in Wisconsin.  It’s amazing the difference the plastic can make in keeping the house warmer without turning up the thermostat and thus saving us money!  One of the downfalls of the house being so closed up is trapping in the air.  Air quality is important for the family to stay healthy and happy but it also helps the furnace run more efficiently too.

One solution to this is to use the Filtrete Elite Allergen Reduction Filter from 3M.  I know we are due for a change soon, since they should be changed every 3 months.  I honestly don’t remember what kind of filter we have in there.  I know we buy Filtrete, I just don’t know if we get the allergen one or not.  If not, I think we need to because it captures 94 percent of large airborne particles, such as pet dander, mold spores and dust mite debris, from the air passing through the filter.  With our three cats, we need a good filter that can handle and trap their hair and dander.  Plus the more it can grab the other yucky stuff from the air, the better it is for all of us to breath.  Hopefully it will reduce the amount of sickness we experience.

Staying healthy is definitely a money saver.  I hate thinking about all the money we easily can spend on over the counter medication, our insurance, and our deductible.  If we don’t get sick, we don’t have to spend money on meds or on doctor visits! And with so many visitor throughout the holiday season, we want to stay healthy.  I was already sick throughout Thanksgiving, I don’t want to be sick through Christmas too!

What do you do to winterize?
