Tales From the Nursery: The Toddler Years

We Need to Start Family Photos

Have you picked out your Christmas Cards yet? What do you like to go with? Do you buy them in the store or get personalized cards with or without pictures? I’ll be honest, I used to think photo cards were LAAAAAME. I still think it’s a little odd to receive family photo cards from someone you don’t know that well. But, now that I have a daughter I’m much more open to the idea of creating cards with her on it to send out. The family just LOVES pictures of her!

But I don’t like to go back on my words or even to go back and say I was wrong. It doesn’t really do anything about the situation. Now, I want my baby to enjoy a little spotlight so we can get some professional pictures done.

And, hey, maybe we can be in the picture with her!

But how can we be unique? Well, maybe we can aim for sending out Holiday Cards in November and combine it with my daughter’s birthday. Now there’s an idea. We need to do our family photos on Halloween! It’ll be a little different and certainly unique! We have the perfect pair of shirts…. “Mummy” and “Deady” but we don’t have one saying Hey! I’m with them!! We need to find a matching shirt for her and wear it all next year. We might even combine with my husband’s brother’s family. See, next year we have plans for a big group costume theme and it’d be fun to be dressed up like that for our family cards, don’t you think?

This is something we definitely are in need of developing a tradition for. I might still secretly wish messes on to your perfectly pressed clothes…

Well, the fine folks over at Shutterfly realize that getting the family together for a photo is difficult. Even more so is having a relevant holiday themed picture or two, three, four, five… to merge with the other one. I know I run into issues where I’m designing something then realize I don’t have a picture! Or if I do have one it’s not one I wanted to use. The worst is when you saved smaller, lower quality pics! To help out, Shutterfly is hosting several Family Photo Day opportunities throughout November. You could even win something for participating!

Have Something To Say ?

We need to have a family portrait taken. I have a couple options since I work with a few aspiring photographers that need to fill their portfolio. We take Alli’s pics to post on FB, but she’s not had a “formal” portrait. And, as far as our families are concerned, we are bad parents! whatever

I have a few cards in mind, but have to wait to see what looks best with the holiday portraits we’ll be having done this weekend. While it’s stressful planning outfits, making sure everyone has their haircut, etc. it’s so nice to check it off the list and we love that she sells the digital file so we can do photo cards, give unlimited prints (framed usually for the grandparents, great grandparents, etc) away, etc. It helps lots with Christmas presents! I feel like I’m crossing at least 3 things off of my list.

Awww! I’m glad to see that you’re coming around to the family photos! It’s SO fun looking back!! Your Halloween idea sounds awesome, you could get even more creative and make your daughter’s shirt! <3 Good luck!
