Tales From the Nursery: The Toddler Years

Do You Give Holiday Cards or Christmas Cards?

I ponder this question nearly every year.  And I assure you there is a difference!

Holiday Cards

These cards have a more generalized message of peace, joy, hope, and love.  They often look wintery, but are not Christmas specific.  They usually reference New Year’s as well.  Holiday cards can take some of the pressure off from potentially offending someone who may or may not celebrate Christmas.  These are also great because you can still send them out after Christmas and be relevant!

Christmas Cards

These cards specifically mention Christmas and include popular images of the holiday, such as ornaments, Christmas trees, presents, etc.  Some may have religious messages or talk about Santa and whether or not you’ve behaved enough to get any gifts!  These you do not want to mail late.  It doesn’t look too good when they arrive several days after the holiday is over.

So…

The distinctions between them are not huge.  They have to do with an individual’s beliefs about celebrating and timing.  Personally, I like having more leeway to give them out.  Most everyone receives a bunch of cards at the beginning of December and then it dwindles down to nothing.

Though I plan to give most out before December 25th, I think I will stick with “holiday cards.”  They are my comfort zone and often carry inspirational quotes.  They don’t seem to have many humorous ones anymore though.  So while I was browsing Tiny Print’s holiday photo cards, I came across a very pretty card/ornament called ”Count Your Blessings” which are ornament cards.

I love the concept – read and hang them up!  Use them to decorate future gifts by making them into bookmarkers.  Use them in the baby book or a scrapbook!  Give them as gifts!

I used to dislike photo cards, but now I love them.  Rissa’s grandparents like receiving pictures of babygirl anyway, so why not make them easy to hang from the tree (or anywhere else!)

Those are really cute! I am more of a Merry Christmas kind of girl and it is hard to find one that I like and is specific. Here is another question… Do you have your names printed on the card AND sign them or one or the other?mryjhnsn

Both! Well if it’s a flat with printed on front; sign on back.

Heck I still write Happy Birthday inside cards even though it’s printed :)Syrana

And if you can’t get everyone together for a picture, you can have a custom beach writing made into an ornament!
