Real Nappies USA Cloth Diaper Review & Giveaway (US) 10/26 CLOSED

One of the most economical ways to cloth diaper is to use covers and prefolds. They are certainly much cheaper than other types of reusable diapering systems. Though I don’t use them as often now as I did when we started out, they are still an important part of my stash. If we hadn’t kept them, Rissa would have been out of cloth at the end of my recent hospital stay. After being in the hospital for four days, you can bet that the diaper laundry was super piled up! Thank goodness for my prefolds! They also are a great option for newborns, I think.

For our event, we received the opportunity to work with Real Nappies, a leading cloth diaper brand in New Zealand that is also available in the United States. They are recommended by parents, maternity hospitals and childcare centers in New Zealand. (Yes, childcare centers! That’s pretty awesome!)  They are known for their ease of use, quality, affordability, and Two Child Guarantee. The prefolds are made out of premium 100% Indian cotton that stays soft and fluffy, even after numerous washes. The PUL diaper covers repel moisture to keep baby dryer and are fastened by hook and loop.

We received the Crawler Intro Pack to try out, which consists of one cover, 1 prefold, and 1 disposable liner.

I was surprised at how large the prefold was – it was bigger and thicker than our other ones. It is still soft after plenty of washes and cycles in the dryer. The cover is definitely nice quality. It is thicker and not as flimsy as most covers I have; I can feel the durability. While Rissa’s age and weight were appropriate for the crawler size, she’s so skinny that I had to go as small as possible around the waist. It still fit well and kept all messes contained. There were a couple close calls near the leg holes though! She wore it for day use and naptime once. I also used the cover with another prefold with no problem.

While I found it easy to use, I don’t consider it daddy friendly (unless daddy is used to folding prefolds). You can’t rally prestuff these. I do like their guarantee that Real Nappies will last through two children birth to potty if you follow the washing instructions, stay within proper age/sizing, have an appropriate sized stash that you are rotating through, and wash no more than every two days or they will repair or replace your diapers. You have to reall stand behind good quality if it’s going to be guaranteed to last through TWO children!!

Final thoughts: I wish I could get these in One Size and snaps just due to my own preferences. They do have some colors available for the covers which makes it a bit more  fun. This is a functional and durable diaper.

Now that you know how these fit my skinny minnie, please check out how it fits on a chubby baby as well as on an average sized baby!

I learned that 27 billion disposable diapers get thrown away annually. That's CRAZY! I'm big on protecting our environment and I wish more people would use cloth diapers.
