Tales From the Nursery: The Toddler Years

The Power of Reverse Shopping – What Do YOU Want?

As a mom, I like to find time savers, especially when it comes to shopping. When I know I WANT something, it can be time consuming to search around for it and compare prices. And when it’s something that I don’t mind receiving used, that’s even more time consuming. I have to check out the person offering it. I have to wait for an auction to end. I have to put a lot of time and work into it.

Now there’s Ubokia, a new way to shop. Well, reverse shop. You post up your WANT and the sellers send you their offers. Instead of searching 5 different websites, you post a want and pick through the offers submitted to you! It took some time for me to wrap my head around the concept since it’s different than what I’m used to. I’m used to searching what sellers have listed and there’s little room for negotiation, rather than posting what I want and having sellers come to me.

The website is pretty easy to use and navigate. You can login with your Facebook account too, so that gives me one less username and password to remember. If you are looking to sell some items, you can browse through the wants and offer what you have. No fees! Ubokia is free to use. So, if you are sick of fees from places like eBay, this offers another option. Or, if you are just curious to browse through the posts, you might see something that you have and are willing to sell that you hadn’t really thought to try and sell.

It’s still new, so it may take some time to receive offers. I posted a WANT a week ago but haven’t received any offers yet. When you post your want, you can be as general or specific as you’d like. You are also able to set a price range that you are willing to pay along with your “pickyness.” This let’s sellers know how specific their offer needs to match. For example, if I said I’m looking for a pink winter coat for my daughter, I can say I’m pretty picky – so I don’t want an offer for a blue or green jacket.

A couple other features I want to highlight is the social sharing tools for the listings. This can help you find more potential sellers for your wants. While this service is free like Craigslist, Ubokia also helps provide added security. You can choose to receive offers locally or far away. Regardless of distance and how the item will be handed off, you can use Paypal to handle the payment. No need to be nervous about carrying the cash with you.

So tell me: what do YOU want?
