Girls Night In: Bridesmaids Movie Party Crashed by the Groomsmen

bridesmaids boxart

Over the weekend I hosted a fun little party at our house to watch Bridesmaids on DVD. Things didn’t quite go to plan, but that’s okay! We made it work and had a good time. A couple of the girls weren’t able to make it. We did have some men crash the party, but we didn’t put up too much of a fight. Someone needed to help eat all of the food, right?

Before everyone arrived, my husband and I worked on the final touches – tidying up (i.e. move living room clutter to bedroom and shut the door) and decorate. We hung streamers, blew up balloons and had fun with it. I tried to decorate the bottom of my punch bowl with streamers too. I thought it looked pretty nifty!

Then it was time to get going on food prep! I made Blushing Bride Punch, I Do fudge, taco dip, ham and turkey roll ups, and a veggie tray. The spread was a hit with our guests. We chit chatted and munched away before popping the movie in.

The movie Bridesmaids is a good one to watch with your girlfriends. While I don’t consider it a chick flick, there were some raunchier parts that would have been more comfortable in a non-coed setting. If you are expecting just a nice, sweet love story that has a couple jokes tossed in – this movie isn’t for you! If you are a fan of Apatow’s other movies, then you know how well he crafts and blends sexual humor with a sweet underlying story. As my husband says, his movie’s, while crude and raunchy to a certain extent, always have an endearing quality. The characters are relatable too.

We certainly shared a lot of laughs as well as “oh no – no.. no she didn’t just…omg she did!” moments. Shopping for dresses was one of those. I absolutely loved whenever Kristen Wiig would make her faces and mock impersonate them while driving in her car. Definitely reminded me of her Saturday Night Live” skits.

One thing our crew had fun doing was analyzing the Milwaukee scenes (since we are in the Milwaukee area). So, of course, Kristen’s “Oh you’re from Milwaukee? I’m sorry.” line was hilarious. It had a great balance of comedy, dirty jokes, and romance. We did feel a few things were left unresolved at the end.. things we would have liked to have gotten closure on!

Have you seen this movie? What did you think of it?

Don’t forget to check out Bridesmaids on Facebook!

“Gut-bustingly funny!”(Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly) From the producer of Superbad, Knocked Up and The 40-Year-Old Virgin comes the breakout comedy critics are calling “brazenly hysterical!” (Alynda Wheat, People).

Thirty-something Annie (Kristen Wiig) has hit a rough patch but finds her life turned completely upside down when she takes on the Maid of Honor role in her best friend Lillian’s (Maya Rudolph) wedding. In way over her head but determined to succeed, Annie leads a hilarious hodgepodge of bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) on a wild ride down the road to the big event.

Sounds like a good time. I was a little ehh on the movie myself but a lot of people really seemed to enjoy it. I love raunchy, lol. I think I thought it would have been even raunchier. It probably was nice to watch in a group, my hubby feel asleep and movies never have the same apeal when I watch them alone.

    Looks like a fun party!crystalnjoe1105
