Many of us strive to eat healthier but our cravings for sweet snacks can thwart our progress. Lucky for you and me, ProBar has developed a new kind of bar. It’s not quite an energy bar nor is it a candy bar, but it is said to be ” the sinfully healthy snack.” It’s unique and comes in four flavors right now: Rocky Road, Nutty Marshmallow, Honey Graham, and S’mores. I received a few of each flavor in order to review them.

Halo bars are natural, certified organic. The list of ingredients is not scary to try and read! They are a bit smaller than candy bars, but have less calories (less than 150). They are a good source of Omega 3 & 6, are dairy-free and vegan. The brown rice syrup gives it a low glycemic index which is important for keeping steady blood sugar levels. Looking at the label – I could have eaten these for snacks while I was pregnant and had gestational diabetes!

While these bars are an option to replace candy bar snacking, I think of them more like granola bars. I love grabbing a granola bar for an in-between-meal snack. I do love sweets too, but I tend to eat them more as a treat than random snacking (usually!). I’m happy to report that they aren’t too bad though! Normally I find anything calling itself healthy, natural, and organic (that is supposed to replace sweets) to be… bland. These are pretty tasty and more satisfying than the average candy bar. It seemed more filling to me. I do like eating them, but I don’t know that it satisfied my sweet tooth. My favorite was Rocky Road. While they all tasted fine, a few smelled a bit funky and I couldn’t pick them out by flavor in a blind taste test – except Rocky Road. That one stands out to me! I was surprised – I thought for sure S’mores would be my fav…
