Tales From the Nursery: The Toddler Years

Charlie Banana Review & Sandbox Lane GC #Giveaway (Closed)

We love finding great online diaper shops, though Sandbox Lane is more than just that.  They carry other eco-friendly items for mom and baby such as baby clothes and toys, mama cloth, and more!  Sandbox Lane was started earlier this year as part of Linda’s quest to have affordable green baby products located all in one place.  They stand behind the products they sell in their store.  And… they have awesome customer service.  Seriously, that always means a lot to me.  I first engaged with Linda and Sandbox Lane on Twitter.  She’s helpful and chatty – which is great!

Oh and did I mention they offer FREE shipping for US orders over $30?  I love it.  It’s reasonable and so easy to spend $30 on fluff!  Shipping is quick too.  Besides the review diaper I’m about to share with you, I’ve also made two separate purchases at Sandbox Lane.  I’m a happy customer.

All right, let’s get talking about this One Size Charlie Banana that Sandbox Lane sent me and assured me that I’d love it.

Charlie Banana is one of those diapers I’d been dying to try after seeing many rave reviews, but wasn’t sure about shelling out the cash.  I received an orange CB a couple months ago and have really put it to the test.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about the orange at first (hubby teased about Rissa ready to go hunting) but I’ve grown to love it.  It pulls together several of Rissa’s summer outfits that are orange, pink and purple.  The color is just so bright, even after all the washes it’s been through!  I also like that it makes my pumpkin look like a pumpkin butt.  Ha!

These are pocket diapers with the opening in the front.  This is nice when my daughter is only wet but it’s not always nice when she poos.  I know, you’d think the front would be safe, but not always!  I could see it being unpleasant for changing boys too, but the opening is wide enough that I can usually shake the insert out rather than pulling it out.

The microfleece lining is very soft.  I wanted to cuddle with it when they arrived.  It comes with two microfiber inserts that are also quite soft.  It features elastic in the back and elastic casings around the legs to keep messes inside.  At first I thought one insert was missing, but it came with one already stuffed – so don’t forget to remove it before prepping it in the wash!  Charlie Banana also has cross over snaps which is fabulous for our skinny waisted girl.  Adjustable elastic for the legs make it easy to customize the fit too.  I almost missed where the elastic is, but it’s hiding under the front flap!

I didn’t realize CB could be used as a hybrid.  They offer disposable and flushable liners that you can lay on top of the pocket.  The front flap helps keep them in place.  This is a nice option for traveling or when baby is left with someone unsure about using your fluff.  Laundering them is much like any of my other pockets.

We haven’t had any leaks.  This diaper has been wet and dirty many times.  I recently used it overnight with two inserts – no leaks – no rashiness in the morning.  I’ve been grabbing for my CBs more and more because of the fit and look of them.  One thing I don’t like is that the front can look funny after it’s on because of how the insert sticks out.  I think this is because of stuffing from the front, so I’m going all the way back.  So, I often have to fix it after I sit Rissa up.

Final thoughts: I do love it.  I bought two more!  Vibrant colors, customizable fit around the thighs, cross over snaps… these things make me a happy camper.  I’m not completely sold on the front pocket or having to readjust the insert because it looks funny in the front, but overall I really like this diaper!  It definitely works well for skinny tall babies like mine!
