Tasty Edy’s Ice Cream Sampling at Walmart’s #theicecreamsocial
On Saturday, May 28th, we traveled a few hours north to visit with some of my family members. I double checked Walmart’s event information and confirmed that the Supercenter in Wisconsin Rapids was supposed to have The Walmart Ice Cream Social from 5pm to 9pm. We figured this would be perfect for dessert!
After dining out with my parents right near their Walmart Supercenter, we headed over. It was after 6pm when we walked in. The entrance leads right into the produce and bakery area. We saw a stand that said Bright Ideas, but there was no one there and it was empty. Empty save a few bottles of Nestle’s Nesquik Chocolate Syrup.
We wandered around the grocery area in search of The Walmart Ice Cream Social that I knew was supposed to be happening, but there were no signs or any indication of it. Our phones barely had service in the area so I couldn’t reach out on Twitter or Facebook to see if anyone else in the area knew what the deal was. We hoped it wasn’t because they ran out of supplies already!
After much wondering around and pondering of the situation, I was getting ready to go ask customer service or a manager… or someone! At about 6:45pm, my husband spotted someone at the Bright Ideas station. It looked like he was just setting up. We hung back a bit to observe, especially since I was already getting plenty of glances and looks due to babywearing.
He dished out little spoonfuls into small dishes with a squirt of Nestle’s Nesquik Chocolate Syrup and Reddi Wip and put them on a tray for customers to take and sample. We watched as a few curious patrons stopped by to try some ice cream. After about 3-4 customers went through, we approached the stand.
The host never made eye contact as he never looked up from the counter. He said it was Edy’s Yogurt Blends (vanilla) with Nesquik Syrup and Reddi Wip. We took our dishes and moved off to the side. After a few more minutes of observation, I saw the host put everything away and leave the stand. It was barely 7pm at this point. I’m not sure if he was taking a break or getting more supplies….
Our samples were gone in a few short bites, leaving us wanting more. With the toppings it was hard to examine the Yogurt Blend flavor. I did like the Nesquik Syrup because it was more like a sauce than a thick syrup. It spread over the ice cream better, in my opinion.
We decided to grab some ice cream to take back to the hotel. Due to unforeseen circumstances we weren’t able to take the baby to my parents’ house. They were going to join us for ice cream and visiting though!
So many yummy flavors and brands to choose from…
I love cookie bits and pieces of candy in my ice cream.
They had a pretty nice selection of Edy’s ice cream.
Oh yum! Triple chocolate peanut butter!
The Walmart brand ice cream was a dollar cheaper but I didn’t like their flavor offerings.
Ooh, mini Edy’s that are perfect for one person. I don’t think I’ve seen these from Edy’s before. At a $1 a piece, it wasn’t that bad of a price. We picked out 4 flavors (can you guess which one is mine?) and grabbed some plastic spoons and bottled water.
We checked out the toppings quick, but it was only Hershey’s and Smuckers. We didn’t see the Nestle Syrup in the Ice Cream isle at all. Oh well, these would be yummy on their own.
I am sad to say that The Walmart Ice Cream Social, while providing some ice cream, was lacking on the social. There wasn’t much of anything to draw customer’s attention to the stand and it wasn’t very busy despite the store having lots of people in it. There is another one scheduled to take place on July 2nd and hopefully they will promote it more! So, if you missed your chance to sample some yummy ice cream this weekend, consider attending the next event.
Or at least grab some Edy’s for yourself!

How disappointing! :-( Thank you for the post!
It might be more of the host – I don’t know if he was an employee of Walmart or not. It was still good ice cream though!Syrana
Aw what a let down! I do want ice cream now, thanks! LOL!Sabrina
Almost every time there is a “social” event at Wal-Mart they are barren of products or host/esses… and never seem very “social.”
Sorry the party wasn’t popping for y’all either. Hopefully they will get it together next time.mommydoesblog
Sorry it was disappointing on the social part. But that ice cream looks so yummy! I could use some now.
YUM! I want some ice cream! I’m so shy the lack of social is fine by me ;)

Am I just out of it? I have heard of Edy’s, but can’t recall ever having seen it before. Maybe they just don’t sell it in my area. Though it does look suspiciously like dryers. Must be the same company. Yummy stuff! I love the small sizes.ohsosavvymom
Depending on your area it’s Dryer’s or Edy’s :) You aren’t out of it! :PSyrana
Looks yummy. I don’t have a walmart near me but you are second blogger I’ve read today who said it wasn’t packed!

That’s too bad that it wasn’t more of an exciting event. Walmart surely has enough customers and promotional clout…they missed out on this one! So sad. BUT who doesn’t love ice cream, right? Edy’s is definitely a great choice too.Sally
That’s a shame that the social wasn’t that social after all. Still the ice cream sounds very yummy!:)
that kind of stinks, though
LOL you sound like a detective casing the ice cream social! That was a GREAT read!
Nice to know about the Nesquik Syrup – I will definitely have to try that out – and I love the small 1.00 versions of Edy’s Ice Cream – Perfect for one person! (I didn’t know they existed either until you told me!)
I felt like a detective! LOL
The case of the missing ice cream social….
It was a warm Saturday afternoon at the local Walmart Supercenter…
