Beta Testing Toygaroo: First Shipment
Remember me sharing about my opportunity to beta test for Toygaroo? Well, I’m overdue on giving you an update!
We’ve received our first shipment, which consisted of four of the toys I selected. I wasn’t sure what would be in the box – only that it’d have four out of the 25 or so toys I picked out. Before going into specifics and pictures, let me say that overall I’m content with Toygaroo so far.
A few weeks ago…
The box arrived and sat outside longer than I would have liked because the FedEx man, once again, did not ring the doorbell. He’s the only one that doesn’t and it annoys me. There’s a sticker from Toygaroo that says not to damage the box because I need to return the toys in it. Well, FedEx is pretty good at damage. I won’t have a chance to!
- Wish FedEx would have read this… (click pic to enlarge)
All the toys and their pieces were wrapped in plastic with the “no yuck” stickers, indicating they were sanitized. I liked this reassurance, especially since I could tell the toys were loved by other children by thing such as marks on them. The plastic did puncture and tear easily though. A couple pieces had a hole in their wrapper from movement during shipping.
I noticed that a couple toy pieces had Toygaroo stickers on them. I thought this was great to help remember which ones have to be shipped back. After 1-2 months, who’s going to remember where what toy came from where anyhow? Except, the stickers were only on a couple pieces.
I put together the activity center the best I could. It wasn’t overly difficult, but I had no directions to reference. I mostly wanted to look up the different settings since it is one of those “grow with me” type toys. Rissa loves it, but gets frustrated quick because she wants to sit up and play…but she’s not fully ready for that developmentally. She seemed happy to have new toys to check out though!
The toys were in good condition for being used (rentals after all, it’s to be expected!), but I can’t tell you just how thrilled I was that everything arrived with working batteries! I hope that was intentional – if not, incorporate that, please!
The Good:
- Working batteries
- Marked after being sanitized
- Quick arrival
- Toygaroo stickers
The Questionable / Suggestions:
- Not liking having a largish box to store and try not to damage for 2 months time
- I don’t like FedEx much, I’d love to see a different arrangement made
- I’d love a set of directions – could be laminated or in paper protectors
- Sticker each toy/piece
Interested in learning more about Toygaroo? You can find them on Facebook and Twitter. And don’t forget! They’ll be on tomorrow’s (Friday, March 25th) Shark Tank episode on ABC at 7pm central.

This is great to see. We are very excited about Toygaroo and you’ll be seeing a lot of improvements to this great concept over time. Thrilled to see the toygaroo team engaging with their clients for this type of in depth feedback.

What a great review! I had never heard of Toygaroo before this. FedEx always damages my packages too. :/freebiespot
I was wondering if you got your first shipment yet. Glad it seems good so far. I agree about instructions. That seems like it could be a huge liability for the if someone used a toy improperly and a cold was injured.LifeWithLevi
You are lucky that the other companies ring the doorbell. At my house, none of them ring the doorbell or knock except the postman. He has started checking by my front door to see if one of the others has left something so he can let me know.
A toy rental sounds interesting. Especially when you think about how fast kids grow out of certain toys. The only downside I can see if it ends up being one of those toys that a kid would never want to part with. You know the ones I am talking about. You have to drag it with you on every trip you go on. You dread it falling apart or getting lost.
Is there a way to buy the toy from them if it ends up being one of THOSE toys?wakela
great review, I had not hear of Toygaroo before and loved finding out more about it. Directions definitely are a must, hubby might not care about following any (typical man, doesn’t need directions LOL) but when I try to put things together I like having detailed directions.
The toy rental sounds interesting…but I would have the problem of my daughter getting attached to it. And beating it to death LOL she plays rough. It definitely worth looking into.
We live here on base and for the first time, I adore my UPS and FedEx guys. I actually don’t want them ringing the doorbell since they typically deliver during nap time. When its my normal delivery guys, they know to leave the packages at the side door and knock…they know by now that I’m usually sitting right here working if I’m not in the nursery.
I like that you can buy at a discount if you do want to keep a toy. I’m a bit worried about the “buy if you break it” though.
I wish my FedEx guy would give me some sort of heads up. We’ve missed items requiring signatures because they didn’t bother to knock or ring the ell – and there was at least 1 car in our drive way!Syrana
Wow, that is pretty cool. I never heard of a toy rental until today. I am glad they put the “no yuck” stickers on them. Even though knowing me, id probably still give them a quick clean!
I agree with you on fedex…they can be a little rough with their packages.misavings
what happens if Rissa falls in love with a toy and you have to send it back? you will be in trouble, mama! :)
I watched the episode of Shark Tank last night and thought it was such a neat idea!
I remember how much I spent “supplying” my kids at that age with all the must-haves! Love the concept, but I agree with your suggestions! Thanks for sharing!tsue1136
I watched the episode on Shark Tank on this one. So glad to see a mom I know of actually try them. Were the name brand toys?
Baby Einstein toys and other big brands – so the rental cost would be cheaper on average, I think.Syrana
Thank you so much for sharing this with us! It is an interesting concept for sure. I am going to write a post about toy rental on my site as well. I would like to include a link to your site as long as it is not a problem. Thanks again so much for sharing. Oh and I love your site. It is so happy and cheerful!

Check us out too. Been around longer.

I browsed around your site – so interesting the variations on toy rental. I’d be happy to talk with you about doing a review, if you’d like.Syrana
